Here’s a bit of the message to remember while working.
Lazy hands make for poverty,
but diligent hands bring wealth.Proverbs 10:4
Missions is a very important part of ministry, and even those of us who do not physically make it into the field can play a vital role in helping spread the Gospel abroad. Missions requires funding, and that funding has to come from somewhere. If you are looking for a way to get involved in missions, and can do it monetarily, here is a great place to start.
One Lunch, One Life is a spectacular program started by Calvary Assembly of God in Fayetteville NC. For $10, roughly the price of a lunch, you can help change a life forever by bringing someone closer to Jesus through missions.
” 25 Now to him who is able to establish you by my gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past, 26 but now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings by the command of the eternal God, so that all nations might believe and obey him— 27 to the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen. ”
Romans 16:25-27

A friend once told me this story, and I feel like it’s a story worth repeating. Here it goes.
A young boy went with his father to a seminar or gathering of sorts. The purpose of the gathering wasn’t relevant, just imagine a lot of people standing around, meangling, and enjoying the free food and drinks. OK, now here was this boy, maybe 10 or 11 years old, there with his father who had recently lost his job. This boy was standing near a group of older men who were discussing their occupations, and “what they were.” Each man would try to twist his job title to out rank the man before him, and finally one of the men noticed this boy listening in on their conversation. He looked down at the boy and asked “How about you kid? What’s your father do?” Now, the boy could have simply made up something like “My dad’s a lawyer.” or “My dad’s a doctor.” Instead, without hesitation, he responed “My dad is a man of God.”
How profound is that? This father was so strong in his walk with Jesus, that his son viewed him as a man of God. He was identified, not by his job, but by his faith. I think, too often, we identify ourselves by our job, or our hobbies, but not by our belief. I think it his healthy to be proud of what you do for a living, and to be good at what you do, but I don’t think that should be what makes us who we are. Live as a Christian, not a doctor, or lawyer, or real estate mogul, or janitor, or teacher, or soldier, or any other profession. Be strong in your profession, but be stronger in your faith.
What identifies you?
